RUSH-HENRIETTA FALCON TRAVEL TEAM SELECTION PROCESS Team selection is comprised of three areas:
Tryouts - Tryouts will consist of two days outside @ Martin Road. - 90 min. session held with two age groups at a time. - Two areas assessed – Technical and Tactical. Technical Players are observed at various stations and awarded a score between 1(low) and 10 (high) by head coaches. The skills being observed are: dribbling, passing, shooting, heading, turning, and fitness. The player is awarded a day 1 average from this session. Tactical Here the player is evaluated during small-sided games. During this session the player is evaluated against their peers. The players are observed by at least five different coaches. The skills being observed are field awareness, movement of the ball, movement with the ball and the technical skills under pressure of a game situation. The players are awarded scores and then assigned on overall day 2 average. The overall average is the average of both days. If a player misses one day than their average is that of the day they attended. The scores are ranked and separated by age group. From this we get a sense at where each player’s skills lie. Player Evaluation From previous year Previous head and assistant coaches are consulted on player’s abilities from the previous year in order to get an accurate assessment of players. Players may be nervous and perform not as well at tryouts where previous coach evals. Will help in determining placements. Parent Input This can be used in the case of moving kids up to the next level, if deemed necessary by the directors. Typically the next level of play requires more commitment and effort by the player. This requires additional parent support. (i.e.: Is the players ready and is the family willing to commit to that team.) This commitment is usually in the form of additional trainings. Concluding tryouts Coaches present rosters to directors of coaching for a final check and signoff. Once approved letters are mailed. Please understand that we are working hard at creating accurate placements. This is why at tryouts all players are assigned a number, coaches are not permitted to evaluate their own children. Our first focus is on the player and making sure that they are placed at the appropriate level to play soccer.
